We all know those commercials that show hungry looking dogs and cats and the guitar music playing in the background that come on during your favorite television show. We also know that despite the fact we know that our heart will sink and our eyes will well up with tears, there is no looking away. Hearing the stories of the lives of the animals affected should make you feel so appreciative of your local animal shelter and all the work they do to keep dogs, cats, and bunnies off the streets and well-fed and cared for.
When the first week of November comes around you might still be in a Halloween candy coma, but getting up and visiting your local shelter and saying, "Thanks!" will bring a smile to all the volunteers' faces. If you're the head honcho at the community's shelter, then welcome in the town by having a 'Meet and Greet' during this week to bring some happiness to the pets and to the visitors who stop by.
Even if your visitors don't go home with a Wrigley or a Remy, send them home with a customized item to remember to come back and visit again. Custom magnets are great for sticking to refrigerators or filing cabinets. Or a uniquely-shaped stress reliever will definitely bring a smile to their face and remind them to recommend their family and friends come to you before buying their newest family addition.
