Say ‘Happy Birthday’ to Customers with Free Gifts and Giveaways!

My birthday was this month, and I’ll tell you one thing: my email inbox is still brimming with special offers and exclusive coupons from various stores and restaurants that I like! Even though I probably won’t end up using many of them, I love knowing that I could redeem them for a free entree or for 10% off my total purchase. Birthday offers make customers feel valued…and you know what else? Birthday offers encourage customers to come back and spend money at your business! As you can see, it’s a win-win situation!

When you send a birthday coupon to a customer, you are essentially saying: “Hi there! Remember us? You took the time to tell us your birthday the last time you visited us, so now we’re taking the time to give you a gift!” That sounds so pleasant, doesn’t it? Many offers include stipulations, like “buy one, get one free” or “free with the purchase of a small drink,” so customers would still spend a bit of money even if they were there just for the free stuff. Plus, even if your customers don’t use the offer you’ve given them, it’s a nice gesture and they should be able to see that you do that little bit extra to make them happy! This is just one more thing that could make you stand out from your competitors.

If you’d rather not do a coupon or a special birthday offer (because of budgetary restrictions or otherwise), then at least consider sending a birthday card to your customers. Here are a few customizable cards from the Quality Logo Products website:

You could order them in bulk and then individually personalize them when a customer’s (or an employee’s) birthday came up. All you’d need to do is sign it, write a personal message (if applicable) and then send it out…and you’d have one smiling customer!

No matter what you decide to give away or send to your customers, be sure you acknowledge them on their special day. I get a birthday card from my insurance company and my chiropractor every year, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy every time. Don’t ask me to explain it; I just feel valued, remembered, and happy when people remember my birthday!
