What imagery comes to mind when you think about July? Most would say picnics, pool parties, grilling outdoors, and celebrating Independence Day (not the Will Smith movie). July 4th may be the most popular holiday this month, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only noteworthy day on the calendar!
You may be surprised to find out that July 2011 is brimming with lesser-known observances like Parents’ Day, Embrace Your Geekness Day, and National Make a Difference to Children Month. Stray off the beaten holiday path and add some new summer events to your list! July has something for everyone, whether you love fuzzy bunnies or you love being naked.
Here’s what you have to look forward to in July 2011 (click to enlarge):
Now you have an excuse to kiss that special someone, hug a spotted cow, and even spend warm days in front of the grill! Thanks, July! And who would have imagined that National Nude Day and Bastille Day would fall on the same date? Sometimes holidays are funny like that.

Ummm, watching the Will Smith/Bill Pullman Independence Day IS an Independence Day tradition in my family.
And in the same vein, hooray for Embrace Your Geekness Day!
Oh, I’m not bashing the film by ANY means – it’s a classic! Just wanted to clarify. For the record, Jeff and Will can save me from certain death anytime they want…
Agreed, Jill. So agreed.
In recent years, my dad has started playing the three days of the movie on the respective days. So we like “live” the experience for the entire weekend. Ah, family.
That kicks ass! What a cool idea. It’s been awhile since I’ve watched it, but ’tis the season, eh?
Alllllllllrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiight! NATIONAL NUDE DAY AND COW APPRECIATION DAY!!!!!!!!! Count me in!
The combination of holidays you are excited about amuses/worries me.
Cows beware!
National Nude Day? That means we don’t have to wear pants to work that day, right? =P
Right! Maybe I’ll call in sick that day…
The countdown for ‘Embrace your Geekness’ day has begun! 1 month and counting! I love when you post these types of blogs, I smile when I read the silly things people celebrate… not that celebrating Cow Appreciation Day is silly or anything
I’m just wondering why there’s a Parents’ Day, don’t they already have days like Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day??
I’m excited that July is National Hot Dog, Ice Cream AND Grilling Month! YUM-O!
Your guess is as good as mine! Maybe it’s another one of those “feel incredibly guilty if you forget to send a card” type of days?
I was wondering the same thing! Those parents are getting a little greedy…haha, JK! I guess since they do so much for us we can give them 3 days of the year. But no more than 3, that’s where I draw the line! Haha
So July is National Recreation and Parks Month? Hmmm… I’m pretty sure there’s a TV show with a similar theme; I forgot what it’s called though.
World Kiss Day? More like World Cooties Day! Gross.
I AM SO EXCITED FOR COW APPRECIATION DAY!
Cows are my favorite animals in the whole wide world, and I will find some way to appreciate them on the 15th.
It’s no wonder that July is National Anti-Boredom Month — July has both National Kissing Day AND National Nude Day! Haha
hahaahaha nice observation!
I see some awesome things to celebrate in there! (Can you guess what’s at the top of my list?) I wonder if places like Baskin Robbins will be doing anything to promote National Ice Cream month…
Looks like we have another exciting month ahead of us! =)
It’s both National Ice Cream Month and National Grilling Month, awesome! More reasons to throw parties! I love summer, and all the fun that goes along with it.
