September 2013 Holidays, Observances, and Awareness Dates: Plan Your Promotions!

Let’s all take a moment to say goodbye to August and the summer. It’s felt a little short, to be honest.

However, it’s time to look to September and make sure that all of our promotions are ready for some excellent marketing and advertising this fall.

Before we get into specifics, I wanted to remind you that QLP’s huge summer sale is still going! It’s running until the end of September and features 12 tried-and-true promo items at a seriously low price. So if you’re just testing the waters of advertising specialties or want to try something new, this is the perfect opportunity. Check out all the details right here.

Right! Now into specifics for the month of September. Labor Day and Patriot Day this month gives you a great opportunity to pass out any leftover patriotic promo items. And heck, if your community has a large block party over Labor Day weekend you might just want to stock up with some more.

Let’s see what else is happening this month:

As you can tell, reading is a huge focus this month. Since most schools are back in session, it’s only natural that book-related holidays would fall during September. This is definitely the month for public libraries, local book stores, and publishers to shine. Grab a promo item that’s going to aid your customers or patrons in their reading; bookmarks are great for any kind of printed material and custom tablet stands can encourage reading through e-readers and tablets. Pair these with some kind of reading challenge or special purchase and you can grab brand loyalty while promoting the written word.

September has plenty of opportunities for you to promote health and safety with your customers. You can pass out branded first aid kits to your patrons during National Emergency Preparedness Week. This is week is also a good time to go over your emergency action plan with your staff.

Summer sun might be heading away, but there are still plenty of warm days left in September. So passing out some sun care kits will remind your customers not to take the residual summer sun for granted. Pharmacies and doctor’s offices may want to pass them out with all the flu shots and school check-ups this fall!

But no matter what your business does or what industry you fall into, there’s sure to be a holiday you can tie to a promotion. September has a lot of bizarre and awesome days! Any store could have a Talk Like a Pirate promotion and offer a discount to patrons who talk like a pirate and you can even pass out parrot stress balls to commemorate the event. Restaurants, you gotta get on board with National Cheeseburger Day! Give your customers a discount or free fries if they check-in on social media or give the first 50 people in the door a cool t-shirt.

“Fight Procrastination Day” and “Read a Book Day” are the same, eh? I guess it seems like a good stay to start reading a book you haven’t read yet for one reason or another.
