HOW TO COLLECT POSTCARDS

» How To Collect Postcards

Postcard collecting is a popular hobby, and resources like the Internet make it easy to get started with a collection.  Many people only collect postcards that fit into a specific theme or embody a common attribute, like postcards featuring celebrities, foreign postmarks, or pictures from a certain era. You can join a collectors club, browse antique stores, and even search the Internet for postcards if you decide to start collecting. Learn more about postcard collecting at Post Cardy, Post Card Collector, and Emotion Cards.

There are many different types of postcards! A few of the main types are embossed, tinted, art deco, and novelty. Embossed postcards have raised or "bumpy" letters and outlines. Art deco postcards feature different forms of art, scenery, or landscapes on them (although there is much more that fits into this category). Novelty postcards, which can be found at Kapowgifts, are usually cards that are funny and amusing but not worth much in terms of value. More postcard terms and their meanings can be found at Postcards of Hamilton.

Postcards with pictures of actors and actresses on them are among the most popular collectors' items. If you decide to start a celebrity postcard collection and you're in need of resources, check out the links below:

For postcards that feature European film stars, the web site FilmStar Postcards can be of help. English actors and actresses can be found at The Forum and Edwardian actress postcards are displayed at Waitrose. To learn about the history of movie star postcards, visit CinemaPlayers.

For more information on postcards with famous people, visit these three web sites: Consolidated Markets, Power House Museum and Scripophily.

You can find postcards with pictures of famous sports stars at Sensual-World, Postcards at Rubylane and Judnick.
