» How to Customize a Coffee Mug That Works for You

Coffee mugs come in an extensive variety of colors, shapes, and materials. Here's a guide to help you find the personalized mugs you've always wanted!

Most of us toil through our morning rituals in the same manner as the day before—with whatever strength we can muster. We fix ourselves a quick breakfast (hopefully a sufficient one) and prepare to greet the morning, sometimes with a smile, sometimes without. And for that much-needed boost of energy that we depend on just before we rush out the door and into rush-hour traffic, most of us turn to the same morning miracle-beverage: COFFEE.

It goes without saying that we all have distinct personalities and tastes. Likewise, we drink our coffees in different ways. Some people prefer to relax in the morning and sip from their traditional mug in the kitchen, while others may prefer their caffeine on the go with travel mugs and stainless steel tumblers. Others, sadly, may not have had the chance to devote any serious thought to preferred types of drinkware for their coffee. Luckily, individuals who remain undecided can rest assured that there is a container out there just for them. When it comes time to enjoying that vital morning elixir, there’s something for everyone!

Take classic, ceramic mugs, for instance. They’re practical, they’re inexpensive, and they’re available in more colors and styles these days than you could even count. Traditionalists have depended on ceramic mugs for years, and for good reason. Most hold roughly 12 ounces and are ideal both in a home and in an office setting. These versatile early morning cohorts are available just about any way you can imagine. Of course, those who are more dependent on caffeine than others are probably more interested in a style similar to bistro or latte mugs, which usually feature a distinct bowl shape and look similar to something you might see in a coffee house or café. They offer a considerably larger capacity—up to 15 or even 20 ounces, making them ideal for folks who favor a longer coffee break than others. Then again, those in need of something a little different or eccentric in the mornings could always opt for one of many themed mugs: double and triple handle mugs, tiki mugs, vertebrae mugs, garbage can mugs, and so on. There is no end to the distinctive varieties of ceramic mugs in the market.

Also significant and useful are travel mugs, which are normally available in several diverse styles as well. Also referred to as tumblers, travel mugs are essential when commuting happens to be part of your daily itinerary. If you’re driving, it’s important to know that most travel containers are already designed to fit most vehicle cup holders. The question is: which travel mug is the right one for you?

X-One Mug (14 Oz.)

Stainless Deal Tumbler (15 Oz.)

Stainless steel mugs happen to be one of the more popular varietals. They’re stylish, affordable, and designed for fast and simple use. Most stainless mug types normally feature a plastic interior insulation covered by the stainless exterior. Other types invert this principle by featuring the stainless steel as an insulator but with an acrylic or plastic liner on the outside, allowing for more decorative design opportunities. This way, your hot coffee will stay hot. If you tend to find yourself on the go throughout most of your day, there’s no doubt that you’ll benefit from a stainless steel travel mug.

Translucent travel mugs are similar in design to the stainless steel but more vibrant in appearance. They normally feature a clear plastic or acrylic exterior surrounding an inner liner (often made from the same material but sometimes from stainless steel) for retaining heat over a longer drive or commute. Translucent mugs are typically available in an assortment of color schemes and are generally livelier in design.

I Am Not a Paper Cup

Also unique in the market are ceramic travel mugs. They look almost identical to any paper cup you’d pay for at a local coffee shop, but only for a recognizable appeal. They’re eco-friendly, dishwasher safe, and feature flexible silicone lids that can be removed and reapplied with ease. If you prefer a more familiar feel to your brew when you’re out and about, opting for one of these mugs is a safe bet.

And let’s not forget the many auxiliary options available to those in the travel mug market. Do you prefer handles? There are types with and without. Looking for one that’s made out of biodegradable material? Not a problem. Are you in need of a spill-proof or sliding lid? Most are already made that way.

Coffee Cup Stress Reliever

But, if at the end of the day you’re not completely satisfied with your choice of container for that delicious morning brew—and if your cup o’ joe just isn’t enough by itself to help you tackle your responsibilities and anxieties—then go ahead and grab on to a coffee cup stress reliever instead. A soft, fun squeezie might just be the ticket!

There really is something for everyone when it comes to coffee container varietals. All that’s necessary is to take a moment and decide which is best suited to your personality and style.
