The Good: High retention item, good for office use and distribution.

The Bad:
Blade safe but not long enough.

The Bottom Line: The CD/Media Pal is a good investment if you’ve ever broken fingernails trying to get to your favorite tune or films.

The CD/Media Pal certainly packs a lot into a single promotional product while still remaining compact enough for a purse, drawer, glove compartment or even pocket. Although it’s only made of plastic, the swinging arm with the disc cleaner is firmly attached to the rest of the unit and is unlikely to break off with regular use.  Unless the small white button is pushed, the blade is retracted to prevent unpleasant surprises when you reach for your customized CD/Media Pal.  However, even when you do push on the button, the blade does not come that far out, which means there’s still a bit of effort involved in getting the plastic sliced away from your new CD or DVD, but it also means you have less of a risk of damaging the hard plastic packaging.

The features on the CD/Media Pal include a black thin-tip marker, a disc cleaner, and s blade for cutting through CD and DVD packaging.  With the arm with the disc cleaner on it, you have two options: CD or DVD.  With the arm closed, there is a CD-width slot for the top of the CD to slide through as you press the button and slice open the packaging.  With the arm open, one of the sides of the slot is removed so the larger DVD case can slide through.  Available in white silver, black, purple, blue, and red, your company or organization will almost certainly find a match without having to reinvent its own logo.

For only a few bucks each, the CD/Media Pal definitely beats having to chip your teeth chewing on corners or leave a big slice on your disc cover by using office scissors for a small job.  However, the CD/Media Pal is not a daily use item (unless you’re selling it or giving it away to media stores) and the imprint is small, limiting exposure.

The personalized CD/Media Pal makes life a lot easier, but it does it infrequently.  This is a good item to have on hand if you want to provide gentle reminders to customers about your brand.
