6 Promotional Products You Didn’t Know Were Promotional Products

Whether you’re a frequent visitor on the Quality Logo Products blog or you’re only a casual browser, you should know by now that we try our hardest to provide readers with the best possible content. The focus of this blog is to discuss promotional products, promotion ideas, and industry news, but we try to cover a wide range of topics related to marketing and branding. All of us are passionate about our work and we have learned to focus a trained eye on the advertisements that occur around us every single day. That brings me to my point – even if you couldn’t care less about logo pens and personalized stress balls, promotional products have you SURROUNDED. I’m not even kidding. I’d like to see you try to get away from promo items just one day out of the week; I bet you can’t do it.

Why am I taunting you and what in the world am I talking about? I’m talking about promotional items that you see and/or interact with every day without even realizing it. I’d like to present 6 everyday items that you may not have considered promotional products…but I assure you they are. Every single one. Are you ready?

Neon Signs

Yes, Virginia, neon signs ARE promotional.

#1 – Neon signs

Yep, neon signs can be promotional products. I’m not talking about every single neon “open” sign you see; I’m talking about the ones in store windows, inside gas stations, and above bars that feature a company logo or slogan. How many times have you driven by a store that had a beer sign in the window (like the Miller Lite sign you see to your left) or displayed the neon logo of your favorite sports team? I’ve even seen bright neon signs of easily-recognizable company mascots. They’re purchased by business owners or freely given away to business owners to promote the products or services of another brand, and they certainly do the trick!

Sports Merchandise

Even lions use promo items!

#2 – Sports merchandise

You know that Chicago Bears jersey you wear every day? Or that Chicago White Sox baseball cap that you can’t leave the house without? Those are promotional products as well. In fact, sports merchandise is one of those promo items that people will gladly whip out their wallets to purchase. Though team-logo-emblazoned merch is often distributed for contests or promotions, it’s actually sold to willing buyers most of the time. But, no matter how you look at it, sports memorabilia is promotional in nature and reinforces brand loyalty.

Diner Mugs

Caution: this coffee is hotter than hell!

#3 – Diner mugs and bar glasses

Just when you thought you’d be safe from promotional items in that local coffeeshop or restaurant… Diners, coffeeshops, and restaurants use logo-imprinted ceramic mugs to serve you liquid caffeine and/or to sell in their gift shops. Bartenders pour your drinks into beer steins with the bar logo on them. Local business owners pay restaurants to place an advertisement on the sides of cafe mugs (which is kind of like a yearbook ad if you think about it). And you know those high-end travel tumblers you see at your local Starbucks? Those are promotional products, too.

License Plate Frame

I bet you see these all over the place, right?

#4 – License plate frames

If you buy a car at a dealership or from a private lot, then it’ll probably come standard with a license plate frame on it. It could say something to the effect of “Bob’s Auto – Call 555-1234” or “Purchased from Downtown Motors,” but I’m willing to bet it will have the dealer’s logo on it somewhere. You know what that means? Of course you do…it’s a promo product! Personalized license plate frames come in handy during bumper-to-bumper traffic because they provide people with a focal point, and that company gets exposure as a result.

Movie Posters

Who knew you could wallpaper with promo products?

#5 – Movie posters

The movie posters you see in front of your local movie theater or on your little brother’s walls are promoting the film in question and teasing audiences. Sometimes film posters crop up long before you can find trailers on YouTube and rolled-up mini posters are often given away before the movie hits theaters. They’re very effective promotional products! Although the cinema may toss or donate old movie posters, they’ll eventually end up in the hands of an adoring fan or film junkie and be put to good use.

Band T-shirts

I wanna hold your custom printed t-shirt!

#6 – Band t-shirts

Come on, we all have a favorite band t-shirt! But tell me honestly: how many times have you taken a personalized shirt out of your dresser and thought: “Hmmm, I’m in the mood to wear this promotional product today.” Probably never, because no one in his/her right mind would ever think that. But anyway, the next time you visit a merch booth at your favorite concert (Them Crooked Vultures, anyone?), keep in mind that it is brimming with exciting promotional items just begging to be worn!

The more you know, the more you grow. I hope you learned something today! Do you think you’ll start looking at promotional materials more closely now, or did you already know that all of these common items are promotional products? What’s your favorite band t-shirt? Let’s see those comments! Thank you for reading the Quality Logo Products blog. 🙂

  1. Bret Bonnet

Alright, I’ll admit it… I’ve got the original “Aliens vs. Predator” theatrical movie posters (both versions) hanging in my home office… there is something about acid blood and humanoid aliens with space age weapons that just gets my blood pumping! 🙂

  2. sam

As generations continue we find ourselves marking time by ads, slogans, and logos. It is a force that is stronger than us all. So I guess it is safe to say “get used to it,” that is unless you wanna move to Alaska or an even remote area that doesn’t allow advertisments i.e. bill boards. Jill, this is a good article – anyone can pinpoint or admit to owning 100’s of items that are promotional items. If you have ever been anywhere, ever, you have participated in the hoarding of promo items. EVERYONE LOVES S.W.A.G!

  3. Scooby DOO!

By far the most random promotional product I have ever seen was imprinted toilet bowl lid liners. There is nothing like the feeling of sitting on someone’s logo to leave a lasting impression!

  4. QLP Kid

I’m not sure if i would appreciate people crapping on my logo =)

  5. Jana

I never really thought of neon signs as promotional products, but you’re totally right! The most effective products, I think, are the ones that work as a piece of apparel/decoration/functional item so that you don’t feel “whored out” for using it.

  6. Szwwe

Wow, I guess theater posters are promotional items…who knew?

  7. Cam Schultz

Movie posters weren’t on my radar as a promotional item, but why not!
