Meet Tangerine Tango: Pantone Color of 2012

Honeysuckle is so 2011. It’s time to vamp up your promotions with the most sizzling color of 2012: Tangerine Tango.

This beautiful reddish-orange color was named the Pantone Color of 2012 because of its versatility and dramatic energy. It’s bold enough to get attention without making people feel like they’re at a construction site. What do you think of it? Experts claim that Tangerine Tango looks great on anyone, which is one of the many highlights of its appeal.

Orange is my favorite color (particularly the rich, reddish shade that is Tangerine Tango), so I’m psyched about this choice. Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director, had positive feedback about it, too:

Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it…[r]eminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, [this color] marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.

Sounds delightful.

If oranges already adorn your ads or emphasize your logo, then there’s plenty of room for this color in your marketing efforts in 2012. Let’s take a look at a few potential promo items that’ll pop with the help of orangey-reds (please forgive my crude design skills…the products shown are meant to be indicative of color contrast only. Working with a QLP customer service rep will make sure your design is spiffy enough for publication and also ensure that your artwork is vectored and jagged-edge free):

Just look at that color contrast! From purple stress balls and green drawstring bags to classic black or white backgrounds, there are so many products that could benefit from the cheeriness of Tangerine Tango.

Even if your logo doesn’t include any orange, you can still find ways to use this gorgeous shade on your promotional products or in your advertisements. Be subtle and use Tangerine Tango on border boxes or for plain-text message lines — you may find that it complements your color scheme. It’ll fit right in with spring giveaways! For example:

Mood Stadium CupNOTE: Again, this is just an example that I’ve created. I’m not terribly experienced in graphic design OR graphic design programs — however, working with a Quality Logo Products customer service representative would give you a more accurate visual of your product proofs!

If you’re interested in printing promotional items using Tangerine Tango, then we can make that happen. An additional ink charge would apply, as with any Pantone color, but it’s minimal and more than worth it. This pretty orange could be that oomph you need to be the biggest and brightest brand in 2012! Click here to find out more about Pantone and about the printing process we use. We also recommend that you talk to a QLP representative for more details — you can do this by calling us at (866) 312-5646, by emailing us at, or by chatting live with us.

What do you think of 2012’s hottest Pantone color, Tangerine Tango? Could you see yourself in this hue?

I love this color so much and during the summer months I think 90% of the shirts I wear is this color. It gives everyone a warm “glow” and since I don’t tan very well, I don’t look quite so pasty wearing it compared to other colors hahaha. Way to go Pantone for choosing this color, and choosing such a fun name to accompany it ๐Ÿ™‚

    Great post, Jill!

    • Jill Tooley

Thanks, Amy! I’d wear this color pretty much any time of year…I could see it for spring, summer, and fall. Can’t wait to go out and get something in Tangerine Tango now! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Mandy Kilinskis

I’m not a big fan of the color orange, but I do like this particular shade! And I do like how nice it looks on all of those different products! It looks super spiffy on any color that isn’t too warm.

Maybe I’ll have to pick up a shirt that color this spring. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Jill Tooley

Me, too! I agree, super warm colors would probably make it lose its impact. Let me know if you find any clothing/accessories this color…I need some for my own! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Alex Brodsky

If only this had come out earlier, me and Joe could have gotten Tangerine Tango QLP shirts for our product videos!

With such a magnetic color, the video would surely go viral in a week! Then maybe we’d get our own TV show! That would have been SO COOL.

    • Stantz

Well, you can order 24 more if you want….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Jill Tooley

      Haha, DREAM BIG! Love it.

I could see you in this color, but definitely not Joe. If it ain’t neutral, then it ain’t Giorgi’s style! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Joseph Giorgi

And here I was thinking that Pearl Harbor Gray would be color of the year in 2012. Boy was I wrong!

In all honesty though, Tangerine Tango calls some definite attention to itself, and that’s nothing but a good thing when it comes to making an impression on customers and clients.

    Nice post, Jill.

    • Jill Tooley

We should create a hue just for you, Joe! It could be called Giorgi Granite. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously, this color is probably my favorite ever. So it looks like 2012 is going to be a good year…haha!

      • Amy Swanson

Bahahahaha, Giorgi Granite! I love this!! Quick, call up Pantone to enter this as a contender for the 2013 color ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Rachel

Such a pretty color! I especially like how it looks with that purple stress ball … it probably helps that purple and yellow are complementary colors, and that orange is pretty close to yellow. ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, I had no idea Pantone even named a color of the year. So cool! Thanks for the info, Jill!

    • Jill Tooley

Thanks, Rachel! I like it on the purple as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t know they did until last year — it’s kind of cool. I wonder if it has any bearing in the fashion industry, or if this is limited just to the design world?

  6. Amanda

I love this color!! It’s a nice orange that isn’t hard on the eyes! Great blog idea Jill! =)

  7. Lauren

That is my favorite color orange!!! I hope it catches on and lots of people start using it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Jen

This color is super sweet! This is a seriously beautiful color and I could see why it would look nice on anybody. I think my swimsuit this year will be Tangerine Tango! I will be so cool.
