October 2012 Holidays, Observances, and Awareness Dates: Plan Your Promotions!

Are you ready for October? With pumpkin spice lattes firmly in one hand, fall is finally in full swing. The weather might be nice enough to throw one last outside hoorah before the cold temperatures set in, but it’s definitely time to get your promotions in order for fall festivals and community events.

And of course, October means that Halloween is coming up at the end of the month. This is a perfect time to get your brand name into the hands of potential customers. You can grab a bunch of leads with some personalized giveaway items for trick-or-treaters, or pass out some limited edition orange or black tote bags.

Let’s see what else is going on in October (click to enlarge):

But if Halloween isn’t your thing, there are still plenty of opportunities to promote your brand or business in October!

Take advantage of all the different food-related days and months by sending treats to some of your best customers. The Cookie Gift Tin would be welcome all month (and let’s be real, all year) long for Cookie Month. And thanks to National Chocolate Day and Halloween, the last week of October would be a perfect time to send your clients some chocolate with imprinted labels.

Also take care of those important people in your lives this month. Hardworking teachers would appreciate a nice tote bag, tumbler, or other personalized item on World Teacher’s Day. And to celebrate National Boss Day, you and your coworkers could pool your money customize a nice padfolio for your supervisor and/or management team.

There are also plenty of causes and charities you can support this October. The most prominent is certainly breast cancer awareness. Your company could staff a volunteer event, donate items to charity events, or just raise funds for breast cancer research. Be prepared to see a lot of pink this month!

National Chocolate Day, Cookie Month, and National Pizza Month?! I better start working out, or I’m gonna be as big as a house by the end of October! 🙂

    • Mandy Kilinskis

Right? I gotta get to the gym more often so I can enjoy every single one of these great holidays this month! We’ll have to keep each other motivated!

  2. Amy Swanson

I loved October before but knowing that it’s also ‘National Pizza Month’ and ‘Sarcastic Month’ makes it infinitely better! Plus, any reason to bake cookies is a-okay in my book and learning that October is ‘Cookie Month’ definitely gets me in the mood for some baking 🙂

Thanks for all the handy info, Mandy!

    • Mandy Kilinskis

Cookies, pizza, and sarcasm are three of my most favorite things. I always knew that I liked October for a reason, but now I have three great ones.

      And not a problem! 🙂

  3. Alex Brodsky

October 21st is National Alex Brodsky Appreciation Day too! That mixed with Pizza Month, Sarcastic Month, and ADHD Awareness week means it truly is THE MONTH OF ALEX!

    October Rules! Santa Maria 4-Eva!

    • Mandy Kilinskis

Wow, indeed! Who knew that there was a month that so perfectly encompassed Alex? If I had known, I certainly would’ve mentioned it in the post. Let’s hope Free Lunch Friday in October is pizza!!

P.S. I’m more of a Nina fan, but hey, to each their own.

  4. Rachel

Dang, October is a busy month! And an awesome one. I’ll have to be sure to enjoy some pizza, vegetables, cookies, and chocolate while reading sarcastic books about fire prevention and awareness, all at my improved workplace where I’ve appreciated my bosses and customers! Oh, and find a Halloween costume, too. 🙂

    Honestly, folks?

Great time of the year for candle accessories.

As a dude – yep, no shame in saying it – scents are some of the stronger associations I have with the seasons, from Halloween through Christmas.

Mulled Apple Cider scents for the fall, straight into a Pine/Evergreen for the winter. If you want your customers to feel those warm, fuzzy holiday feelings, candle accessories will be sure to brighten their rooms, and their spirits.

Heck, I keep writing comments like that, I’m gonna end up writing content.

    • Mandy Kilinskis

Well, well! I wouldn’t have even thought about candle accessories, but you’re definitely spot on. Candles are super popular in the winter, and you’re right, they have great smells for the fall and winter.

And I think you found your calling, Eric. Candle descriptions might be right up your alley!!!
