One of the most important parts of creating your custom giveaway is making sure you pick the right color for your logo imprint. Certain promotional items would look best with specific imprint colors added, while others can sport any tone under the sun! Whether your product needs one imprint color or a full imprint color, we have the necessary tools to get the branding job done fast, and easily.
This post will walk you through everything you need to know about imprint colors, and how to pick the best one for your promotional items. In the lesson, we’ll touch on what the difference is between imprint colors and item colors, what imprint colors you can get on your items, matching your logo to a PMS number for future branding endeavors, and more. Let’s get started!
What are Imprint Colors?
The imprint color is the color of the ink used when putting your logo on your item. This ink is loaded into the printer and pressed along the surface of the screen or pad to then be transferred to your promo item. In this example, the imprint color on the stress ball is white. This would be the color of your design when it’s printed on the product of your choice.
What’s the Difference Between Imprint Colors and Item Colors?
When picking a product, it’s very likely that you will have multiple color choices to choose from. For example, if you have your eye on our Round Stress Reliever, you have the choice of over a dozen different colors for your product. The imprint color, on the other hand, is a bit different. While you have 15 different colors to choose from, only one ink color is included with your order. You can see the ink color available at no additional charge right by the product name on our website.
You can have a pink stress ball with blank ink, or a gray stress ball with orange ink. It all depends on what works best for your brand! Just note: the imprint colors and item colors will never be the same.
Which Imprint Colors Can I Get on my Items?
The factories determine which imprint colors come standard for specific products. These ink colors are chosen based on standard colors, popular choices, and what ink looks good on that particular item. A small percentage of promotional items only have one or two colors to choose from. These include calendars that only offer a black imprint, and the Metallic Viper Pen, which only allows you to choose from a silver or gold imprint.
How to View Available Colors
Are you looking through our website, trying to find what imprint colors are available for your product of choice? On any item page (we’re using the Mood Color Changing Pencil as our example), scroll down under the No Surprise Pricing table and you’ll see a section labeled, “How We Add Your Logo.” From there, you’ll see every imprint color available for your product.
Looking for a PMS Color?
While you are customizing your product, you may notice colors specified as “PMS” followed by a number. PMS stands for Pantone Matching System and provides the most accurate color match for your logo.
In contrast, if you just asked for your logo to be printed in “blue,” the shade of blue could be different than the logo used for your specific design. It’s important to keep in mind that not every factory and vendor has the same shade of blue as its standard color. Having a PMS Color for your logo is the best way to ensure you get the exact color for your logo.

Which imprint color will look best on my item?
In general, the imprint color depends on your design and the product you choose. You certainly want your logo to look the best that it can, and we absolutely agree!
If the item color you want is a darker color (black, navy, brown, deep blue, etc.) a light color imprint (white, pink, etc.) will look the best. Conversely, if you pick a light item color a dark color imprint will look better. Remember, our sales reps are always on hand to recommend the best possible choice and offer a second opinion on what will look great on your promotional products!
