We wanted to know how much mileage our promo pens give us – literally: how many miles can each pen write for? So we used a custom machine designed to test pens.
The machine holds the pen tip on a roll of paper that is pulled slowly under the pen. It’s like paper moving through a printer, but flat. The machine moves the pen around on top of the paper so that it makes a long spiral shape of consistent circles.
When a sensor detects that the pen isn’t producing any more ink marks, it stops writing and records the length of ink the pen made.
And that’s how we know some of our pens can write for up to 1.8 miles! We take the quality part of our name seriously: just because our pens are usually given away for free doesn’t mean they shouldn’t give your customers an excellent (and long) writing experience.
