Crimson
Do you want to use this color in your promotional items? Here's what you should know!
Crimson is a rich shade of red that’s almost purple in tone. The color is symbolic of vigor, passion, love, and affection. It’s also used to represent being remarkable and standing out.
The name comes from a red dye created from a tree insect in the Mediterranean. It may sound strange, but making dye out of bugs isn’t that unusual! As of today, researchers are working on a red dye created from cochineal bugs.
Examples of Crimson Symbolism
The New York Central Railroad laid out a plush, crimson rug to direct people onto passenger trains in the early 1900s. Hollywood, inspired by this practice, rolled out their own red carpets for movie premieres about 20 years later.
Harvard is proud of their crimson logo. They even named their student newspaper, The Harvard Crimson. The color was chosen when crew members wore crimson bandanas to distinguish them from other teams at a regatta race in 1875.
Move over, Captain America! The real hero is the Crimson Chin from the hit cartoon series, “The Fairly OddParents”. The Crimson Chin (voiced by Jay Leno) is defined by his strength, passion for crime-fighting, and distinct oversized chin.
